Reimagining the canon for a contemporary audience, THE MODERN REP believes that classic texts are not relics to be preserved, but living works meant to be interrogated, disrupted, and brought vividly into the present moment.
Our productions strip away tradition, creating bold, intimate experiences that foreground language, actor, and audience. We stage classics with a focus on immediacy, clarity, and a sense of shared event.

Launched in 2026 and lead by artistic director Grant Sorenson, THE MODERN REP is the only professional theater company in the Twin Cities focused solely on classical work. We collaborate with exceptional theater professionals to ensure that each production meets a high standard of artistry and care, creating audience experiences that are engaging for both lifetime and first-time theatergoers.
